The Future Is What It Used To Be
The sweet irony of unrequited love for my efforts to understand the recursive nature of blogs has not reached the point at which I realize my efforts might be better spent researching something else.
One of the benefits of chasing your tail is that in the process there is so much interesting stuff to discover and think about, all wonderful distractions from the bitter irony that if I am ever successful in my quest I’ll finish up kissing my ass good-bye.
And so I discovered Dr. Richard Barbrook who recently published what looks like a smashing book, Imaginary Futures. I am setting this aside to study more closely because the thesis is fascinating and there is something about the overall feel of the thing that resonates with me, something retro maybe?
Here is the professor in his own words…
…and the text to study. Also, Sarah Snider’s review in Culture Wars, perhaps a better place to start.

[taking a breath; very annoyed that I didn't see the name, etc. fields and just lost the entire post; now, to remember what was said]
A number of things came up to make me curious about your blog so I determined to cut a swath of time in order to revisit. I’m glad I did so.
Your voice is different these days. It no longer sounds of the introspective person seeking an answer in very difficult terms. Instead, the voice is strong, not begging acceptance in any-wise. It is clear and demanding. It is forceful in its examination of the many incongruities that drive our social and economic mix. These are excellent characteristics for the journalist’s voice and I appreciate them.
Also appreciated are the investigations you undertake of the various endeavors on the Web that purport to be opportunities. Once you’ve finished your dissection, we all see what the product is.
I’ve been enjoying your column, “News to Peruse,” that is published on Recruiting Network. It is definitely solid meat that we in the recruiting industry need. Please keep it up.
I was concerned that your voice had disappeared from my radar. Perhaps he’s on tour with the Recruiting Roadshow or bouncing around to the many conferences, was my first impression. But you surfaced and then I found not just the Recruitomatic blog but several that you’re maintaining. Ah!
Now to get to know the enigmatic man so that his words are not as much of a puzzle.

Yvonne, thanks for your kind words.
As it happens I am still experimenting with my various blogging projects. I hope that is not entirely at the expense of the earlier soul-searching posts on my Recruitomatic blog and which I still enjoy/look forward to writing. Unfortunately, those tend to take up more time and energy than I have to give right now but there is plenty of lava in the ol’ volcano so stay tuned!
In the meantime, I’m glad your enjoying my more “mainstream” efforts
