A Contrarian View of Life in the Recruitosphere

Cloud Recruiting, Cloud Computing, and a Rant in Time for Christmas

Before I go off ranting, in the interests of full disclosure, I have been in cahoots with Net evangelist Michael Marlatt since our first conversations about cahootin’ this year at SourceCon. Our chats since have covered topics as diverse as data portability, gizmos and gadgets and supernumerary nipples.

I am also part of Michael’s reverse brain drain on CloudRecruiting.net and couldn’t be more flattered to have my name in lights with the likes of his other Think Tank members — Amybeth Hale, Dan Harris, Eric Jaquith, Geoff Peterson, Jeremy Langhans, Jim Stroud, Josh Kahn, Leslie O’Connor, Rithesh Nair, Suzy Tonini, and Tim O’Connor. I cannot say how they feel about being similarly associated with me but three out of the eleven follow me on Twitter. That say’s something doesn’t it?

I am also a shameless marketer looking to make a buck or two while the recruiting industry collapses into a heap of transaction-driven dysfunction, peddling [almost] free stuff thinly veiled as thought leadership-inspired recruiter training. Yes, while the digerati have their heads in the cloud, and ol’-timers have theirs somewhere where the sun don’t shine, this boychick follows the rainbow. What can I tell ya? I dig the cloud.

Next, in the same way that I reject the ambiguity of hijacked metaphors by confused talking heads to promote [or defend] a particular position — making an exception for moi’, of course — I would love it if we could try and get along in time for Christmas.

So, with the strains of Let There Be Peace on Earth in background…

This week I was reminded that small fish rise to small bait. I was not only tickled to see a big-fish from O’Reilly Media sniffing around ERE’s chummed waters but equally amused to see that he sniffed around and left. Well, it amused me.

[Later that day...]

Oh, bugger! Am I the small fry who just got hooked, was that linkbait barbed? Nah, it’s cool. It’s just a fast-talking and link-laden bloggin’ carny-ride. Up, up and away!

  1. This is the stuff I love about you.
    ;)

  2. I asked Shally about his post last week, and unless I completely misunderstood him his it had nothing to do with Michael’s Cloud Recruiting meme.

It was more focused on Cloud Computing and the marketing approaches of some of the technology vendors in the space.

I can’t speak for Shally, but I don’t think he was talking about this at all.

  3. Dave, I’m sure you’re right hence my Later that day… postscript, linkbait and carny-ride references.

That said, one could be forgiven for drawing the inference. Many did.

  4. You had me at “supernumerary” sir.

  5. Hey RecruiterGuy,

Somehow jokes aren’t funny if you have to explain them…

    1. Feed Need: feed, need, semantic web…supernumerary nipples do not “feed the need” anymore than the semantic web does. [Web 3.0 -- third [supernumerary] nipple]

    2. See Brad Fitzpatrick from Google introducing the Social Graph API and his whiteboard explanations…look familiar?

    3. Okay, it was obtuse, I’ll give you that. Like many of my jokes — and much of the banter on Web 3.0 — they are udderly useless.

Sorry if I lost you. At least you’ll see why I thought it funny, I hope.

  6. Cloud Recruiting, awesome! But I doubt if it’s just for conformity. :)
